Behind The Scenes of a Wedding During the COVID-19 State of Emergency
-
As a Photographer who has documented over 200, It was both intriguing and exciting to be on the other side of things. My hope was to document the beauty in the time leading up to the wedding and how it is possible to find unforgettable memories in what some other may think of as normal or mundane.I had been separated from my Fiancee because of COVID-19, as she is from and lived in Brazil. So to us, the beauty was not about the grandeur of the wedding. In fact, She had no dress, I had no ring to give her and we had no idea where we were getting married until 1 week before our ceremony. We finished our mandatory 14 day quarantine on a Thursday, obtained our marriage licence on the Friday, and we're married by Sunday afternoon. Those moments we were finally able to share together and enjoy will be remembered for the rest of our lives. With my Grandma having COVID-19 at the time and being in isolation, we decided to go through with our wedding ceremony on the sidewalk of the street her rest home is located on. This allowed her to be apart of the experience which was special for everybody involved. Unfortunately because of VISA issues due to the pandemic - My wife's parents were forced to be involved with the wedding via FaceTime in a language they don't even speak. I'm sure it wasn't what they dreamed of as a wedding for their daughter, but their happiness and love could be felt through the screen on that afternoon. It was perfect.
I hope this post gives others some perspective on weddings (especially those having to change their original plans of their 'dream wedding' because of circumstance) and how the beauty lies in what you make of the experience - Big or Small; Just simply enjoy and embrace the moments that present themselves. -
